FISCHER RISK MANAGEMENT / INDUSTRIES
Ingredients, production partners, storage conditions, and retailer agreements all matter. Review liability, recall, and inventory together as your brand moves into more hands.
Request an Insurance ReviewA packaged food or beverage business may use its own facility, a co-packer, an importer, or a combination of partners. Describe the products, ingredients, production responsibilities, and sales channels involved. This guide is for food and beverage product businesses; restaurants and hospitality operations require a different operational review.
Discuss the finished products you sell, labeling responsibilities, territories, and retailer or distributor agreements. Explain changes in recipes, packaging, suppliers, or intended consumers. A product liability review should consider how the policy describes your products and any relevant exclusions. Share contractual insurance requirements before relying on a certificate to satisfy them.

A contamination concern or product withdrawal can involve notification, retrieval, disposal, and interruption of sales. Product liability insurance does not automatically establish coverage for these expenses. Ask about the specific events and costs addressed by a recall or contamination policy, its exclusions, and the responsibilities your co-packer or suppliers have agreed to assume.
Explain where ingredients and finished goods are stored and whether temperature control is needed. Identify maximum stock values, shelf life, shipping routes, and who bears the risk during transit. Discuss spoilage, equipment failure, and transport arrangements explicitly; do not assume a standard property or cargo policy addresses every cause of product deterioration.
If you operate a facility, review equipment, premises, employee duties, and recovery time after a disruption. If you outsource production, explain the alternatives available if a key partner stops operating. Business interruption coverage depends on defined triggers and terms, so discuss the proposed wording alongside your practical continuity plan.

Prepare a product and ingredient overview, annual sales and sales territories, co-packer details, distribution arrangements, current policies, loss history, and renewal timing. Explain lot tracking, quality procedures, and product withdrawal planning at a high level. An initial website inquiry does not need confidential formulas or complete operational records.
Bring agreements that allocate responsibility for manufacturing, labeling, transport, indemnification, or insurance. Ask how the requested limits and endorsements relate to your actual operations. Insurance and contractual promises are separate documents. Discuss legal interpretation with your counsel while reviewing insurance requirements with Cory.
A new co-packer, expanded retail distribution, overseas sourcing, or a refrigerated product line can introduce new questions before the next annual renewal. Share the change and the decision deadline early. Cory can discuss what information is needed to explore options; availability, limits, and terms depend on underwriting and the policy issued.

Submitting an inquiry does not bind, amend, or cancel coverage. Coverage availability and terms depend on underwriting and the policy issued.
